The objective of this icebreaker is to get acquainted with others. Write the name of some distinctive sounding animals on slips of paper. Create 5 to 10 slips for each animal. Hand the slips out and ask the participants to find all the same animals without talking. This makes for a fun way to get acquainted.

Worship: Use the Worship DVD.

Word: Matt. 21;18-21:”18 Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered. 20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked. 21 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” NIV

As Disciples of Jesus Christ we have much authority- this authority is activated in our words. Speaking the Word of God through faith has a powerful effect but also speaking doubt, unbelief and even simple nonsense.

James 3:5&6 says;” Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.” NIV

Wrong use of our mouth can bring us even in danger of the fires of hell! But the right use is what I want to focus on. Speaking the word of God over every situation by Faith is how we manifest Christ’s authority to change it! Not talking about our problems and situation but talking to it!

Prov. 18:21;” 21 The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.” NIV

There are some things we are struggling with and experiencing today that are a direct result of the way we are talking. What we say has power! As believers more so than anybody else we have the same Spirit that created the world in us- and it all was created by God’s words from His mouth!

That is why Jesus says;’ 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.” Matt 12:36

Discuss:

As a disciple your words has power- what words are you using daily?

Changing the way we talk might be difficult discuss ways to do it.

Repent of negative talk.

Pray for each other.

Ice Breaker: Explain to the group that you have a “puzzle” for them which require them to put their thinking caps on and work in small groups. Make sure paper and pens are available (and a calculator, if necessary). Then, relay the following story in your words: There was once a rich man who left everything to his three sons. The eldest was to inherit half, the middle son a third, and the youngest son a ninth of everything. So, they proceeded to divide up his possessions – which went smoothly until they got to the seventeen camels. How can seventeen camels be divided as instructed? Give the groups time to try and work this out!

Half of seventeen = 8.5 camels

Third of seventeen = 5.6 camels

Ninth of seventeen = 1.8 camels

The sons were baffled. How could they divide these camels? After struggling for some time, they decided to approach the local wise man for help. He considered the dilemma for a few moments and then ordered for one of his own camels to be given to them, so now they had eighteen camels. Now watch what happens:

Half of eighteen = 9 camels

Third of eighteen = 6 camels

Ninth of eighteen = 2 camels.

After finally managing to divide up the herd of camels as instructed by their father, the brothers realized there was one left (the eighteenth extra camel), so they took it back to the wise man. The message to stress here is “Whatever you give you always get back” and “God is no man’s debtor”!

Worship: Use the Worship DVD.

Word Psalm 1 “But his delight is in the law of the Lord” -A disciple is a student of his master and therefore desires to please Him. God’s emphasis is on His word, that which is to be the object of our delight “When something delights us, we become preoccupied with it and we tend to protect and guard it. The word “delight” was also used of that in which one takes delight as in one’s business, pursuits, or affairs of life. .

“And in His law he meditates day and night” -“Day and night” means “constantly, consistently, and regularly.” This means the man of blessedness is occupied with God’s Word. It is on his mind and in his heart at all times in every situation and area of life.

“And he shall be like a tree”-Please note, this is a promise from God and a well established fact of life. A Bible that is worn and falling apart from use usually belongs to someone who isn’t. Being like a tree is of course a metaphor, a picture. But what does this picture teach us?

A tree has deep roots and portrays stability and the capacity to withstand the storms of life. It’s the picture of mental, emotional, and spiritual stability in every kind of situation.

It also pictures the concept of growth and time. As it takes time to produce a huge sprawling oak, so it takes time to grow and mature in the Word. The problem, especially in our ‘fast food” society, we want and expect an overnight transformation and change. But true spiritual strength comes from a long-term, established relationship with God in His Word.

It also pictures ministry. If a tree is a fruit tree, it gives fruit. If it is an oak, it gives shade. God has given us His Word that we might become fruitful trees in His service and in ministry to others.

“Firmly planted by streams of water” -This verb actually means “to transplant,” not merely “plant.” This is rich and significant. “To plant” means to cause to take root, to become firmly established for the purpose of stability, nutrition, growth, and eventually production. “To transplant” includes the above, of course, but it also includes taking a plant out of one environment and placing it into another which is more conducive to production, growth, and stability. Like taking wild trees growing in barren and desert-like conditions and carefully transplanting them in rich prepared soil by streams of water.

Although it is God who plants us, we must choose to live not in the counsel of the ungodly, but live by the streams of water, the Word and God’s provision for learning it. This means value choices! In New Testament terms this means: (a) daily time with the Lord (Hebrew 3:7), and (b) weekly times of assembling together with other believers (Hebrew 10:24-25).

“By streams of water” continues to paint this picture for us. “Streams” means “to divide, split.” The word was used of cutting a water channel for irrigation, or of the land divided by rivers, ravines, and streams. Our word refers to canals or water courses provided for irrigation. By way of application, God has provided the inspired word, the canon of Scripture and gifted teachers of the Word. In Old Testament times there were the prophets and teaching priests; there was even a school of the prophets led by Elijah and Elisha. In New Testament times we have pastors or elders who are to teach as well as other teachers (Eph. 4:11-12). It is the believer’s responsibility to respond to God’s provision and to plant themselves regularly in a seat where they can drink from these water resources.

“Which yields its fruit in its season”- Note again the recurring biblical principle: First the root, then fruit. First the word with obedience and application, and then there is production. The phrase “Which yields” means “to give.” The verb is the imperfect tense, which stresses continual action and is always true as a general rule of a disciple’s life.

Each tree is to have fruit. Fruit is a proof of the root, where one is dwelling. There are several categories of fruit:

The character of Jesus Christ (Gal. 5:22-23, 16);

the exercise of our spiritual gifts in Christian service (1 Pet. 4:10-11; Rom. 12:3), including exhortation, giving, showing mercy, helping; and

witnessing and leading people to Christ (John 15:16 with verse 27)

As far as the believer’s fruitfulness is concerned, this means studying and becoming prepared to serve in special ways according to one’s gifts and God’s timing.

“And its leaf will not wither” -This is a picture of vitality, of being green, healthy plants in spite of conditions. A plant which is planted by streams of water has the capacity to endure. It is the principle of living life independently of the details of life for one’s happiness.

“And in whatever he does, he prospers”- Literally, we may translate, “in all that he may do he continually or repeatedly prospers.” “Prospers” in the Hebrew means to ‘prosper, succeed, be profitable.” The root means to accomplish satisfactorily what is intended. Real prosperity results from the work of God in the life of one who meditates on His Word. The man of blessedness prospers first because he always seeks to operate in the framework of God’s will according to God’s values and purposes. As one who delights and meditates in the Word, Scripture is consulted and used as a guide for whatever he does. He also prospers because he uses Scripture as a guide for how he does what he does. He operates in the sphere of God’s enablement, supply, and direction.

This does not mean there is never adversity or failure. The kind of prosperity God primarily has in mind is spiritual prosperity, discernment, and godly character. By-in-large, true disciples will gain the capacity to be wise and stable in areas such as their business or the office which could mean promotions or higher profits. But it could also mean persecution as one takes a stand for righteousness or refuses to compromise or do the things employees are sometimes asked to do that go against the righteous principles of Scripture.

Discuss:

Being a disciple has definite benefits for each one following Christ- name them.

God’s plan is that those who follow Him prosper- it is His desire- the key though is to follow Him- how are you following? Please pray for each other.

During this special season and time of year it is so easy to be drawn away from what is really important. The whole focus on everything but Christ is exactly the plan of satan to occupy many believers with everything but what is truly important- getting to the Lord!

Jam. 4:8a:” Come near to God and He will come near to you.” NIV

Drawing near to God is the most basic and greatest step any person and especially child of God can take. By far the first and primary area of preparation for every child of God is intensely relating to God in the Spirit. Of course, this should have always been our priority. As we step into 2012 we must realize that all other preparations will be of little or no value if we are not truly seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness FIRST in our lives.

Intimately relating to God in the Spirit and becoming one with Him will release the authority of heaven within us to supernaturally accomplish the will and plan of God. When our focus is to be close to Him, we will receive clear direction from God. This direction will come through praying in the Spirit and hearing in our spirit, it will enable us to walk through turbulent times without fear.

Through the life of God in us, we shall overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony. Whether we live a long life or a short time in this body, we are the Lord’s and will never be apart from Him. Our great desire is to fully serve Him and to accomplish all He has given us to be and to do in this life

. Secondly we Must realize that we are very important to one another and closely knit together in Him as each joint supplies its part. This will be more acutely seen and experienced in the seasons of devastation ahead for this world and the glorious season of experiencing the deepest river of His love filling us with His life and flowing the glory of the kingdom to one another. The glorious kingdom lifestyle is at the door.

Ice Breaker: What does it mean to fear God?

Worship: Use the Worship DVD.

Word: Isa. 11:2:” The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD—“NIV

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge…” Proverbs 1:7

For those who are in Christ, the “fear of the Lord” does not involve abject terror or dread of divine justice. In fact, John says that any who fear God’s wrath are not perfected in love (verse 18).

The fear of the Lord is virtuous; one of the seven attributes of the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus and all believers; the Holy Spirit will help every believer to live in the fear of the Lord. So what is this “holy fear”? In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word used for this fear is “yirah”, which denotes piety and reverence rather than abject terror. This is why some modern translations say “revere the Lord” rather than “fear the Lord”.

A careful study of Scripture will reveal that “the fear of the Lord” involves the following elements:

1. Reverence and Awe “Let all the earth fear the Lord, and let all the inhabitants of the world be in awe of him.” (Psalm 33:8)

God is exalted above creation, yet “in Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). He knows us completely, loves us infinitely and is with us always (Ps 139:1-2). God’s Majesty does not keep us from Him because He willingly humbles Himself to fellowship with us.

2. Hatred of Evil “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil” (Proverbs 8:13)

The Spirit of the Fear of the Lord fills us with a sovereign respect for God, and makes us dread nothing so much as to offend Him by sin.

3. Obedience to God “That he may learn to fear the Lord his God by carefully observing all the words of this law and these statutes” (Deuteronomy 17:19)

Obedience should spring from our love for God. That is a much better motive than fear of punishment. Love is freely given and does things out of a desire to delight God. It is unselfish, gives all the glory to Our Lord, and seeks no other reward but pleasing Him (although God’s justice will always reward such obedience – Matthew 6:4,6,18).

“Whoever has my commandments and keeps them is one who loves me, and whoever loves me shall be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him….If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our abode with him.” – John 14:21,23.

Discuss:

• What do you fear most when you think of eternity?

• Discuss the hatred of evil and what it means in your life?

• Please pray for each other.

Word Isa. 11:2:” The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD—“NIV

God designed man to be a daily recipient of revelation knowledge received from the Spirit of Knowledge. In the Garden of Eden, man walked and talked with God. Adam and Eve were receiving revelation knowledge daily from Almighty God. Jesus also demonstrated this life-style of doing nothing out of His own initiative, but only what He heard and saw the Father doing (Jn. 5:19,20,30).

Satan entered Gods perfect plan with a temptation: Man could become like God, and man could know right from wrong. Man would no longer need to receive revelation from God, but he could turn to his own mind and he himself could know separate and apart from God (Gen. 3:5). In suggesting to man that he could become like God and he could know, satan was suggesting to man two things: self consciousness, and reliance upon reason or rationalism as a way of establishing truth. Mankind accepted this lie and fell from revelation to reasoned knowledge. As a result, he was cursed. Part of that curse was that God cut man off from the Tree of Life (Gen. 3:22), where Jesus was the vine and man was a branch and there was a flow of revelation through man on a daily ongoing basis (Jn. 15).

Paul was a man who had the best-reasoned religious education of his day. It was built squarely around sound theology about who God is and what God wanted of His people. However, this training missed the Spirit of knowledge- in effect- revelation knowledge. Then God entered into Paul’s life with revelation knowledge on the Damascus road, and Paul followed up this initial experience with an additional three years of private tutoring by the Holy Spirit, alone in the Arabian Wilderness most likely at Mount Sinai (Gal. 1:17,18).

Paul then compared the two kinds of knowledge he had received first with reasoned, theological biblical understanding, and then with knowledge that came from revelation and intimacy and from the Spirit of God. He said that he counted his first rational education as dung (Phil. 3:1-10) when compared with the value of knowing (ginosko) God (having intimacy and revelation knowledge from God).

Ice Breaker: What is the most awesome feat of strength you have ever seen? Tell it to the group and let them share their stories…

Worship: Use the Worship DVD.

Word Isa. 11:2:” The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding; the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD—“NIV

Might is one of the seven attributes of the Holy Spirit. Nobody has been a better example of spiritual might on earth than our Lord Jesus Christ. Throughout the Bible we see examples of the Spirit of might in the dealings of God.

In the Old Testament we see manifestations of the Spirit of might; when small numbers of men conquer huge armies. Gideon’s testimony of victory, Moses’ testimony including the plagues and the crossing of the Red Sea, Joshua’s testimony of the fall of Jericho, Jehoshaphat’s victory against his enemies, David’s victory at Ziklag, Deborah’s victory, Esther’s testimony of deliverance, not to mention Samson who was particularly and peculiarly anointed with might, the awesome exploits of David’s mighty men, and Elijah’s victory on Mount Carmel testify to the specific anointing of Might. It would be remiss to neglect the builders when we have acknowledged the territory takers. It takes might to do what Nehemiah did in restoring the wall of Jerusalem. It takes might to usher in a period of revival and spiritual restoration.

In the New Testament we see Jesus came in might, to save, redeem and restore. He came in might to rebuke storms, walk on the sea, multiply food, heal the sick and raise the dead. Jesus then carried this call to flow in the Spirit of might over to us. Indeed in the words of Jesus:

Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

We as believers today have vastly underestimated the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit has been at work on this planet ever since the beginning. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light” (Genesis 1:1-3).

Think about that! The Holy Spirit was hovering, waiting to create. Then the moment God spoke the Word, “Light be!” (Literal Hebrew translation), the Spirit sprung into action and slung this universe into being. That’s how the Bible introduces us to the Holy Spirit!

The Holy Spirit is the muscle of God. Every time you see God’s power in manifestation, the Holy Spirit is active! When the Holy Spirit came on Samson, he single-handedly killed a thousand Philistine soldiers (Judges 15:14-16). Some people get the idea that Samson was able to do those great exploits because he was a giant of a man. But he was really just an ordinary fellow. He only became extraordinary when the Spirit of God came on him.

The prophet Elijah was the same way. On his own, he was just as normal as you and me. He was once so frightened by the threats of a woman that he hid in the wilderness and asked God to kill him so he wouldn’t have to face her.

But when the Holy Spirit came on him, Elijah was mighty man. He once called down fire from heaven, killed 400 prophets of Baal, and outran the king’s chariot (drawn, no doubt, by the fastest horses in the nation of Israel). And he did it all in one day (I Kings 18-19).

This Holy Spirit- the Spirit of might is the One who dwells within you and walks with you. When you received the Holy Spirit you received God’s Spirit of POWER! And He doesn’t change or shrink up His abilities so He could fit them inside you. What’s more, when you run into anything you can’t handle and you call on Him for help, He’s ready to supply you with whatever you need. He’s ready to be your comforter. Ready to be your teacher and your trainer. Ready to be your advocate, your standby, your counselor.

He’s been waiting for you to give Him something He can work with. He’s been waiting there inside you just like He hovered over the face of the waters in Genesis, waiting for you to speak the Word of God in faith.

That’s been His role since the beginning—to move on God’s Word and deliver the power necessary to cause that Word to manifest in the earth. Develop an awareness of the reality of the Holy Spirit within you. Stop spending all your time meditating on the problems you’re facing and start spending it meditating on the power of the One inside you who can solve the problems. In other words, start becoming more God-inside minded!

Instead of walking around moaning about how broke you are and how you can’t afford to give much to spread the gospel, start thinking about the fact that the One with the power to bring God’s Word to pass is living inside you, and you’ll change your tune. You’ll start saying things like, “God meets my needs according to His riches in glory, so I have plenty to meet my own needs and give to every good work!”

Then the Holy Spirit within you will go into action. He’ll give you plans, ideas and inventions. He’ll open doors of opportunity and then give you the strength and ability to walk through them.

Jesus said, “…As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”” (John 20:21).

You’ve been sent just like Jesus was. You’ve been sent to your family, your neighborhood, your workplace, your world to deliver the burden-removing, yoke-destroying power of God! That’s the reason God baptized you in the Holy Spirit. He intended for you to walk into a place and bring the power of God on the scene—the same power that enabled Samson to defeat the Philistines and make a fool out of the devil! The same power that enabled Elijah to call down fire from heaven and outrun the fastest horses in the country! The same power that enabled Jesus to heal the sick, raise the dead and calm the sea!

The Apostle Paul said, He is “able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20).

If you’ve been waiting for God to do something in your life or in the lives of those around you, or you’ve been saying, “I know God is able to change this situation. I wonder why He doesn’t do it.” Read that last phrase again. It says He is able to do above what we can ask or think according to His power that is at work within us!

Start building your faith in that power. Instead of gazing toward heaven saying, “God, why don’t You help me?” look at yourself in the mirror and say, “The Spirit of God is living in me today and I expect Him to do wise, wonderful, amazing and miraculous things through me!”

When we begin to realize whom you have received, these words of Jesus Shall become true to you;

“Everything is possible for one who believes.” Mark 9:23

Discuss:

What everyone is facing in the terms of the impossible.

What can you imagine God wants to do for you?

How can we activate the dimension of The Spirit of Might in our lives?

What is hindering you from living a life of power?

We are excited with the anticipation of what the Lord will do in the coming weeks and months, as well as to the birth of our second little boy! We are so grateful to you all for your prayerful support and partnership with us in the work of God during 2011 and especially the last few months.

“Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God. Each exclamation is a trigger to prayer. I find myself praying for you with a glad heart. I am so pleased that you have continued on in this with us, believing and proclaiming God’s Message, from the day you heard it right up to the present. There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears. “(Philippians 1:3-5 MSG).

We know the blessing of God’s gracious answers to your prayers on our behalf and we praise the Lord for you!

I would like to thank every one of you who had committed to a Faith Promise with us- we truly value your standing with us in the Kingdom of Christ! For those who did not yet make one we would like to request that you prayerfully consider partnering with us in clearing of debt so we can be more focussed and effective in the Kingdom of God!

We had a great week of ministry at THE CHRISTIAN NETWORK NATIONAL CONFERENCE last week at Hatfield Christian Church in Pretoria. It was a privilege to share and fellowship together with many Pastors’s and churches nationally!

This time of the year I believe all of us are bit exhausted from the business of life and we all are slowly coming to the realisation that 2011 is almost at an end, but not yet… Please do continue to remember the usual ministry in various places on the Lord’s Day and during the week.

From now on we will be home until the end of the year and are looking forward to finishing strong with you and receive the newest addition to our family!!

Very special thanks to our faithful Cell Leaders, worship team and Children’s Ministry Team, Ministry of helps- the sound, finances and everyone who serves so faithfully, Thank You!

Finishing 2011 strong!

We love you!

Your Pastors

Ice Breaker: Please discuss & Prepare for the Prayer-walk on Wednesday

Worship: Use the Worship DVD.

Word Isa. 11:2:” The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD—“NIV

Understanding is one of the key attributes the Holy Spirit will add to the life of every Spirit Filled believer, but very few people actually know what it means and how the Holy Spirit will do it. When we speak of understanding a couple of hero’s in the Bible come to mind. Except for Jesus, Joseph and Daniel were two men to who specifically were attributed with having the Spirit of Understanding. Both of them could interpret the visions and dreams of others and both of them impacted the world of their time!

1 Cor. 2:9&10:’However, as it is written:

“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”[b]—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—

10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.”NIV

The Merriam Webster has a secondary definition: superior power of discernment.

Understanding is one of the flaming torches of the Holy Spirit guiding believers into spiritual truth. Believers’ access to the spiritual flow of Understanding is facilitated by the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

John 16: 13 ”However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

The passage refers to knowledge and understanding. Understanding speaks to depth of revelation. We can live in the flow of the guidance of the Holy Spirit to understand spiritual truth. Understanding of Spiritual truth is lacking in our world today, leading to much deception.

John 12: 39 “Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: 40 “ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, Lest they should see with their eyes, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.”

Understanding is clearly the path to salvation/s and should be sought.

Proverbs 4:7 ”Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.” Understanding helps one to comply with wisdom.

Understanding: 1. a mental grasp 2. a : the power of comprehending; especially : the capacity to apprehend general relations of particulars b : the power to make experience intelligible by applying concepts and categories (Merriam Webster)

Understanding is the process of assimilating truth and thus becoming equipped to apply wisdom.

God through His Spirit wants us to understand His purpose and plan for our lives, city, province and Nation. We have the Holy Spirit completely in our lives when we are baptized with Him and not just portions

Discuss:

How important it is that we understand God’s will for our lives, specifically in terms of our salvation.

If understanding the will and word of God is the basis for our living it, then we need the Spirit of understanding! Please Pray for each other.

Please discuss the arrangements for the prayer walk on Wednesday!
